Cuckoo House by Rara Architects is a modern take on a traditional cuckoo clock house in Footscray, Victoria. The original dwelling was an old Edwardian and despite being much loved by the owners, the logistics of building a rear extension made it impossible to retain. Accordingly, Rara decided to retain the Edwardian character of Cuckoo House by introducing a modern design to the existing building footprint. The new verandah pays respect to the original verandah by servicing the original function, but stands proud like a Japanese Torii.
