About Hīnaki
Hīnaki was David’s first exploration into lighting in 1995 when he made a prototype based on fish traps which are called hīnaki by Maori. Hīnaki traps were made from woven vines, some in amazingly beautiful forms.

We knew the minute we saw Hinaki that we wanted it for our house. The online app to see what it would look like was super helpful (and confirmed our hunch that the 1400mm size would look best). Shipping and service was fast and excellent, and overall it was a really fun/easy process to put it together before hanging. (Our one piece of feedback was that it would be great to include a ceiling rose with the light as it isn't included in the kit). Overall we are super happy with our light - it looks even better than we had hoped it would!

How do I choose a light?
Not sure which light to buy? We can give you some advice about designs and sizes. Our lights are a larger than other options on the market, and are intended to be large features. Being thin plywood, they look much smaller once they are installed too and our clients often say they'd wished they'd gone slightly bigger. Read our full FAQ section by following the arrow below.
