About Hīnaki

Hīnaki was David’s first exploration into lighting in 1995 when he made a prototype based on fish traps which are called hīnaki by Maori. Hīnaki traps were made from woven vines, some in amazingly beautiful forms.

We loved the design and the look so much that we have replaced three pendant lights over the kitchen bench with three Hinaki designs, again with the red interior. We purchased these online and were absolutely delighted with the speedy delivery.

How do I choose a light?

Not sure which light to buy? We can give you some advice about designs and sizes. Our lights are a larger than other options on the market, and are intended to be large features. Being thin plywood, they look much smaller once they are installed too and our clients often say they'd wished they'd gone slightly bigger. Read our full FAQ section by following the arrow below.
