Product Care Guide

Caring For Your Light

All of our lights are made from natural bamboo, slight variations in colour may occur due to different batches and processing. Over time, the bamboo will naturally darken as it hangs in your space.

For Indoor Use Only

David Trubridge pendants are made from natural bamboo plywood, which is not suitable for outdoor exposure. Bamboo plywood can be damaged by temperature changes and UV rays, causing deterioration when exposed to outdoor conditions.

Install in a Dry Environment

For optimal care, install it in a dry environment. As David Trubridge lighting is made from natural materials, it can absorb moisture, which may lead to mould growth over time.

How to Clean

Before cleaning, always make sure the light is turned off. Use a soft cloth or microfiber cloth dampened with warm water to gently wipe the surface. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the finish. Regular gentle cleaning will help maintain the light's longevity.

Not Suitable for Task Lighting

David Trubridge pendants are designed primarily as accent lights, perfect for creating soft, ambient light and beautiful feature shadows. However, they are not ideal for task lighting. Task lighting is essential in areas like kitchens, reading corners, or workspaces, where you need focused, direct light for specific activities. Be sure to incorporate additional task lighting in these areas to ensure both function and atmosphere in your space.

Sizing for Your Space

Choosing the right size of pendant light is crucial for achieving the desired look in your space. A light that is too large can overwhelm the room, while one that's too small can get lost in the space. To decide on the correct size, consider the following tips:
  • For a dining table, the light should typically be about half to two-thirds the width of the table.
  • For larger rooms, consider using multiple pendants or larger fixtures to fill the space and maintain visual balance.
  • In general, aim for the light to hang about 30–36 inches above a dining surface or counter, adjusting based on the size and height of the room.

Personal Style & Focal Point

David Trubridge’s designs are often artistic and sculptural, making them ideal for spaces where you want the lighting fixture to be a focal point. Play with the shape and colour to add your personal style to the room.
Experiment with bold color contrasts or use a neutral tone that complements other elements in your décor. Since the lighting can influence how colours appear in the space, make sure it coordinates well with the surrounding décor.

Cord Length for Shadow Effects

The distance between the pendant light and the surface below plays a significant role in the strength of the shadows. The closer the light is to the surface, the more pronounced and intense the shadow patterns will be. Experiment with the length of the cord to find the right balance and pattern strength that suits your space, especially in the evening when shadows come to life. A bit of cord drop can create a more dynamic look, so don't be afraid to let the light hang a little lower. Keeping it too tight to the ceiling may reduce the visual effect.

Style Considerations

For the most aesthetically pleasing results, consider how your chosen light interacts with the rest of your décor. Lights tend to offer the best visual balance when they have a slight cord drop. The subtle length creates a more organic, natural look, allowing the light’s design to shine without feeling too rigid or tightly constrained to the ceiling.
